Institutional Solutions
The primary goal of most institutional investors such as Defined Benefit Pension
Plans and Foundations is preserving capital and managing risk. Trustees charged with
the responsibility for choosing investment managers for these organizations want reasonable
growth with limited volatility for an established pool of assets in which many individuals
have a personal interest.
The market for institutional accounts under $50 million is generally not well-served
by existing providers. The accounts are considered small by institutional standards
and most organizations are forced to place all the assets with only one investment
manager.
But even the best investment managers may underperform if the markets do not lend
themselves to that manager's particular investment style. A manager's style could
be out of favour for prolonged periods and the portfolio suffers from relative underperformance.
A solution may be to invest the assets through a platform that provides access
to many different managers and investment styles. A portfolio that combines various
asset classes, regions, investment managers and styles can have more stable performance
and mitigate the risk of underperformance.
ScotiaMcLeod's Managed Asset Programs are an excellent way for smaller institutional
investors to access world-leading investment managers and manage risk more effectively.
